SUPER sunnies

Sunnies, we can't do summer without them and while we need them for sun protection we also need them to act as windows to our inner cool - they can really make or break a look. Sunglasses are highly susceptable to a trend and I'm sure the number of sunnies most of us have bought in a lifetime can't be counted on our fingers and toes. I'm a sucker for a cool pair of shades and although I have zillion pairs, I'm always being tempted by the latest looks. My friend Stepho has a hot pair of SUPER by RETROSUPERFUTURE® which prompted me to check out the range and I likely!!

The label was started by Daniel and Simon Beckerman the publishes of PIG Magazine, an independent music and fashion magazine out of Italy. As with the success of PIG Magzine which went on to branch into web-radio and became one of the most infuential indie music web-radios on the net, SUPER Sunglasses have taken off and are worn by Kanye West, Daft Punk, Sienna MIller, Jessica Alba and Valentino Rossi... Stocked in Australia at Glue stores, here are some of my favourites. I particularly like the Liberty print collection!!

Fairy tales are made for this...

US Vogue's Creative Director Grace Coddington and photographer Annie Leibovitz proved fairy tales aren't just for the kids with their take on the famous fairytale Hansel and Gretel in the December 2009 issue of US Vogue. Starring Andrew Garfield as Hansel, Lily Cole as Gretel and Lady GaGa as the wicked witch, the fashion editorial weaves its fairytale magic with beautiful photography and dreamy settings and beautiful clothes. I love how modern day clothing can be used tell a classic story... so inspiring. So when I turned on the TV last night and the movie Ever After starring Drew Barrymore was on, it was proven fairy tales aren't just for kids and that fairytales never die, they just get remade and reinterpreted so that we may live happily ever after...

Fresh as a daisy

The weather is nice again and its got me dreaming about me, book, blanket and a field of fresh flowers.... (I've been reading too many French romance novels lately). That being so I am into the fresh face right now "beauté naturelle". No make up, no hair product, just a clean face and hair dryed in the wind. There was a time I wouldn't speak of it - no way! I thought if people saw me for what I really am their eyes would pop out of their heads, they would cry out in pain and never want to see me again! Lucky that phase passed.

I love a natural beauty and even though I may not be as blessed as Constance Jablonski (first image below) I love that natural beauty doesn't necessarily mean the most beautiful girl... For those who can't pass on the make up, use soft natural colours that enhance your natural tone - soft rosy or peachy cheeks, hint of lip stain, a touch of eye shadow (one of my favourites is Nars Indian Summer duo). Its easy and saves time and everyone loves a natural beauty!

Oh dear!

I know I have blogged a few too many celebs lately and I apologise for it but I am a little obsessed. I know money can't buy taste and that looks and taste unfortunately don't go hand in hand but I still find these concepts hard to get my head around. Case in point Paris Hilton here again, the hair, the tights, the fake tan and the itchy crotch scratch!?! It's just so horrifying but I can't tear my eyes away! For these reasons I am an avid follower of Go Fug Yourself the site the documents the fashion disasters of celebs. It is fascinating blogging!

Tricks of the trade!

Victoria Beckham has our best interests at heart, she really does! She has included in her dVb collection a jean that gives the illusion of skinnier legs. The jeans are black in back which continues into the inner thigh so that from front on you look like you have super skinny legs. C'est super! Some of us need these more than Vic but then even skinny girls have fat days. Now all we need are jeans that get rid of muffin tops - Vic we're relying on you babe!

Racing season inspiration

We are now full swing into racing season and I know this may come a little late for some but for those still seeking inspiration here it is.

These images were taken backstage at Erin Fetherston a New York based designer. Unfortunately she isn't stocked in Australia so these images for purely for inspiration but I note she is stocked online at RevolveClothing and ShopBop both of which ship internationally.

For something a little easier to come by check out Alannah Hill. I know she isn't for everyone but her latest collection really does have something for everyone. My favourites are her Glitter Bow Belt which comes in navy and red and her Strawberry Hat (images not shown so you'll have to go instore to check them out!).

News Flash

Our dearly beloved and very talented designer Michelle Jank is home in Australia and busy working on an exciting new project. I was fortunate enough to bump into her tonight and she told me she is designing a collection for jewellers Fairfax & Roberts which incorporates diamonds. I can't wait to see what she creates!

Just in case you were wondering she looked amazing in a tulle dress adorned with sequins, worn over jeans with cuffs rolled, a trench coat and her signature eye glitter. Inspiring.

Paris sees red!

Oh please, for the love of fashion will someone please advise Miss Paris Hilton that matchy-matchy outfits are only excusable on elderly women and not hip young heiresses! Miss Hilton should be advised that a non matching outfit is in fact very cool, way cooler than teaming your red frock with red shoes, a red handbag and a red headband!! Stylists the world over are seeing red over Paris' love of the matchy-matchy and women around the world are going blue over the waste of a good shopping budget! Maybe she is trying to kick start a new trend, maybe she is establishing this as her signature look?! Wouldn't you just love to take to her and mix her up!!

Miranda in Paris

It might have required a double take to recognise her but Miranda Kerr took to the Balenciaga catwalk on 1 October in Paris. This marks her move from David Jones and Victoria's Secret catwalks to the real deal. The lure of Victoria's Secret's sizable paycheck may have kept her away from Paris and Milan in the past but it looks like she might be doing the fashion rounds in the future. I might be the only person in the world that looks forward to seeing her with clothes on!

Irving Penn (16 June 1917 – 7 October 2009)

Renowned and influential fashion photographer Irving Penn died last Wednesday at the age of 92. Penn, who started out as an unpaid design assistant for Harper's Bazaar art director Alexey Brodovitch in the summers of 1937 and ’38, moved into photography after working under art director Alexander Liberman, at Vogue. His association with Vogue began in 1943 and earned him legions of fans who loved his beautiful portraits of models in still poses. His style transcended the many transformations fashion took over his long career and his photographs are displayed in museums and galleries all over the world.
