Proenza Schouler

God I love these shoes! Just had to share them with you! A little bit of wood, a touch of colour, a lace, a sexy height, what is not to love about them...

Proenza Schouler heels photographed front row of a show by Tommy Ton for Jak & Jil and as featured on Sea of Shoes, the ultimate shoe lovers blog created by little Texan teen Jane Aldridge...

Dear St Valentine

Dear St Valentine

Who are you and where did you come from? I heard you were a Catholic martyr and that you were not one but many. Strange. A feast in your honour was started by a Pope in 496, he thought it might be a good idea to set aside the 14th of February as a day to eat in your honour. Cool. But what is your story? Why and how did you inspire a tradition of celebrating love for another? Seems no one knows. Many say it is consumerism that inspires your tradition... I don't care, sounds like fun to me. But maybe you should have a rule book associated with your holiday. It could start with:
  1. Flowers coming from organic matter only - no plastic thanks.
  2. Celebrate it wholeheartly or not at all. Complaining that V Day was created by commerce is boring.
  3. Acts of love come in many forms and it doesn't require the spending of money - jewellery made of grass/picked flowers (sorry neighbours), whispered words, notes of appreciation...
  4. V day is not a birthday - wish lists are a little rich.
  5. Secret admiring can be flattering but a little freaky... do it with care...
So, Saint V can you pass on the message and thanks for the inspiration.

Love LMc

PS I know I said rule 5 was don't make wish lists but this is not technically a wish list, its a list to inspire... (I promise!)

Style rookie she ain't

I find it incredible how a 13 year old who is not a model nor related to a fashion royal family can inspire so much fashion hype. How a 13 year old's fashion dialogue can make the fashion world stop and listen. But that is just what a 13 year old from Chicago has done. Tavi Gevinson started her fashion musings at the age of 11 with her blog Style Rookie and has since gone on to feature in many a magazine most recently American Vogue. Her taste is unique and appears extraordinarily unaffected by her peers. The kid really is a child fashion prodigy. Check her out at Style Rookie

SUPER sunnies

Sunnies, we can't do summer without them and while we need them for sun protection we also need them to act as windows to our inner cool - they can really make or break a look. Sunglasses are highly susceptable to a trend and I'm sure the number of sunnies most of us have bought in a lifetime can't be counted on our fingers and toes. I'm a sucker for a cool pair of shades and although I have zillion pairs, I'm always being tempted by the latest looks. My friend Stepho has a hot pair of SUPER by RETROSUPERFUTURE® which prompted me to check out the range and I likely!!

The label was started by Daniel and Simon Beckerman the publishes of PIG Magazine, an independent music and fashion magazine out of Italy. As with the success of PIG Magzine which went on to branch into web-radio and became one of the most infuential indie music web-radios on the net, SUPER Sunglasses have taken off and are worn by Kanye West, Daft Punk, Sienna MIller, Jessica Alba and Valentino Rossi... Stocked in Australia at Glue stores, here are some of my favourites. I particularly like the Liberty print collection!!

Fairy tales are made for this...

US Vogue's Creative Director Grace Coddington and photographer Annie Leibovitz proved fairy tales aren't just for the kids with their take on the famous fairytale Hansel and Gretel in the December 2009 issue of US Vogue. Starring Andrew Garfield as Hansel, Lily Cole as Gretel and Lady GaGa as the wicked witch, the fashion editorial weaves its fairytale magic with beautiful photography and dreamy settings and beautiful clothes. I love how modern day clothing can be used tell a classic story... so inspiring. So when I turned on the TV last night and the movie Ever After starring Drew Barrymore was on, it was proven fairy tales aren't just for kids and that fairytales never die, they just get remade and reinterpreted so that we may live happily ever after...
